If you're looking for an easy veggie to cook at home, baby broccoli (AKA broccolini) is just what you need in your kitchen. It has a milder and sweeter flavor than regular broccoli, making it a great option for the whole family. It's also easy to turn it into a delicious dish that even picky eaters will love.
What can I say I love my broccolini.. have you seen my stir-fried broccolini, grilled broccolini, or Italian sausage and broccolini pasta?

📖Why My Recipe Works
- Sun-dried Tomatoes- The sweet flavor pairs really well with the saltiness of the feta and creates a balanced flavor for the frittata.
- Ratio of Eggs and Milk- Not too creamy, not too dry. Just right.
🧾Ingredient Notes
- Broccolini- Look for ones with bright green tops and firm stems. Or use regular broccoli and chop them into smaller pieces.
- Sun-Dried Tomatoes- You can substitute it with fresh tomatoes, especially if you're making it in the summer.
- Feta Cheese- You can also use other crumbly cheese like goat cheese or queso fresco.
- Eggs- You'll need at least 10 eggs to fill a medium or large cast-iron skillet.
- Milk- I used whole milk, but you can also use low-fat or any unsweetened dairy-free milk.
- Yellow Onion- Shallots or white onions will work too.
💭 Variations
Baking Dish- If you don't have a cast iron skillet, you can also make it in an 8x8 or similar-sized baking dish. Spread the sauteed veggies and sprinkle the cheese evenly over the eggs so that every slice gets a good mix. Bake it for about 20 minutes or until the eggs are puffy and fully set.
Add Protein- To make your frittata even more filling, you can add bacon or ham to the mixture.
⏲️How to Make a Broccolini Frittata
- Whisk the Egg Mixture: For a fluffy frittata, it's important to whisk together the eggs, milk, and seasonings until they're light and frothy. A blender will work too and will make it quicker.
- Sauté the Vegetables: When sauteing the vegetables, cook until they're tender and caramelized but not brown. The broccolini should be tender when pierced with a fork but still bright green.
- Add the Egg Mixture: Gently pour the egg mixture over the veggies to create an even layer. Let the eggs cook for a few minutes on the stovetop, just until the bottom and edges begin to set. Sprinkle the feta over the mixture before transferring to the oven.
- Bake: Cook the frittata in the oven until the eggs are set and the cheese is melted. Then, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. This allows the eggs to be set completely and makes it easier to slice.
🥗What to Serve with a Frittata
Frittata is one of those dishes that looks fancy but is actually really easy to make. You can serve it for parties or gatherings or for a tasty meal any time of the day. In my house, I like to serve it with gluten-free garlic bread and a simple salad like my house salad or green bean salad.
For breakfast pair with sliced fruit or a unique fruit salad. Add a slice of banana bread and a blueberry mimosa for a complete brunch.
Expert Tips
- The frittata is done when the center is puffy and has slightly risen. You can also test the doneness by shaking the skillet a little bit. If it's cooked, it shouldn't jiggle too much when you shake it.
- Garnish it with fresh herbs like parsley or chives before serving.

Common Recipe Questions
What is broccolini?
Broccolini is a hybrid of broccoli and Chinese broccoli, making it a longer and thinner variation. It's also called baby broccoli and is known to be a milder and sweeter version of broccoli. It is a great option for quick cooking recipes like frittatas.
What is the difference between a quiche and a frittata?
The difference is both in ingredients and cooking methods. Frittatas are started on your cooktop and finished in your oven while quiches are simply baked. A frittata has less dairy than a quiche, similar to open face omelet. Quiches usually have a pie crust base but you can make a crustless quiche.
