We had such an amazing response to our gluten-free crescent roll recipe but we heard you loud and clear. You loved it but you wanted a quick and easy gluten-free bread recipe for every day.
And since we were already working on a new San Marzano tomato sauce recipe, we thought now was the perfect time to share our quick and easy garlic bread with you.
We tried out several types of gluten-free bread across multiple brands for the perfect recipe.
Why This Recipe Works
Just like the classic frozen garlic bread, I remember from when I was a kid but updated with better flavors. This recipes is quick and easy to make using store-bought or homemade French bread baguettes.
This recipe has a dairy-free option but is still loaded with butter and garlic flavors
And most importantly, my friends asked why I was eating gluten. It was so good they couldn't tell the difference!

🧾Ingredients
This recipe uses simple ingredients but has maximum flavor. For this recipe you will need:
You can use any mix of herbs you like but I prefer to use a mix of fresh parsley, basil, and oregano
See the recipe card for exact quantities.
Best Bread for Homemade Garlic Bread
While a homemade gluten-free baguette is best, that isn't the easiest task. Especially for beginning bakers.
My recommended pre-made bread for homemade garlic bread is a Schar Baguette. A close runner-up is the Against the Grain French bread.
Schar is shelf-stable and Against the Grain is a frozen product. The best part of the Schar baguette is that it has a denser structure, so it absorbs the garlic butter.
In a pinch, a hot dog bun will do. And yes, that is totally what I do when I have leftover garlic butter.
Other Recipe Substitutions
While I don't recommend substituting dried garlic, garlic salt, or granules for fresh garlic. You can substitute roasted garlic for a sweeter flavor.
You can substitute dried herbs for fresh herbs. See the recipe card below for substitution quantities.
🥖 How to Make Gluten-Free Garlic Bread
The key to this recipe is to soften the butter so the garlic and herbs mix up evenly.
Step 1- Make Garlic Butter
Butter takes 1 to 2 hours to soften at room temperature. Once softened stir in the garlic, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper. You can do this step in advance to save time later. It will keep for several weeks if stored properly.
Step 2- Prep
Cut each baguette in half lengthwise and place them on a baking sheet. I don't typically line with anything, but you can use parchment paper or foil for faster clean-up.
Step 3- Bake
Bake the butter baguettes at 350 F degrees until the center is soft and the edges of the bread are golden and crispy. This should take about 8 to 10 minutes.
Serve your gluten-free garlic bread with fresh marinara or basil pesto for dipping. Or as a side dish with a big salad, a bowl of gluten-free potato soup, our crustless tomato pie, or your favorite pasta or our sun-dried tomato risotto.
🥗 How to Use Leftover Garlic Butter
This garlic butter is essentially a compound butter. It can be used on top of seared steaks, blackened fish, or roasted vegetables like our roasted zucchini or roasted eggplant.
👩🏻🍳 Expert Tip
When serving as a side dish for the family I don't cut the bread before serving. However, when I am serving as a party appetizer, I partially pre-cut the bread.
To serve garlic bread for a crowd slice it in half lengthwise. Butter the halves and then partially cut the bread into 1-inch slices. Cutting it like hasselback potatoes makes it easy for partygoers to tear off a piece while making for a pretty display.
💭 Variations
Dairy-Free Garlic Bread
This recipe can be made using Earth Balance Baking Sticks. Just like with our gluten-free crescent rolls, this garlic bread turns out great every time even when made dairy-free. You will need to use the Schar baguette as the Against the Grain brand is made with mozzarella cheese.
Cheesy Gluten-Free Garlic Bread
To make your garlic bread cheesy add ½ cup grated parmesan to the butter and cook according to the recipe directions.
🌡️ How to Freeze Garlic Bread
Garlic bread can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 1 to 2 days. But I prefer to store it in the freezer and heat up a slice or two at a time.
After the bread has cooled, place it in a freezer bag and freeze. It will keep for about 2 months.
Let it thaw on the counter or remove from the plastic freezer bag and bake it in a 300°F oven until it is warm and the butter is melted.

Thaw for 30 minutes on the counter. It should be sliceable after that. Let thaw all the way before toasting and adding to your stuffing.
