I had such an amazing response to my gluten-free crescent roll recipe, but I heard you loud and clear. You loved it, but you wanted a quick and easy gluten-free bread recipe for every day.
Something to serve with gluten free pasta and homemade meatballs, or something you can serve as a snack with san marzano tomato sauce.
I tried out several types of gluten-free bread across multiple brands for the perfect recipe.
📖Why My Recipe Works
Just like the classic frozen garlic bread, I remember from when I was a kid but updated with better flavors. This recipe is quick and easy to make using store-bought or homemade French bread baguettes.
This recipe has a dairy-free option but is still loaded with butter and garlic flavors
And most importantly, my friends asked why I was eating gluten. It was so good they couldn't tell the difference!
🧾Ingredient Notes
- Garlic- I don't recommend substituting dried garlic, garlic salt, or granules for fresh garlic. You can substitute roasted garlic for a sweeter flavor.
- Butter- Skip the salt if you uses salted butter.
- Herbs- You can use any mix of herbs you like but I prefer to use a mix of fresh parsley, basil, and oregano
Best Bread for Homemade Garlic Bread
While a homemade gluten-free baguette is best, that isn't the easiest task. Especially for beginning bakers.
My recommended pre-made bread for homemade garlic bread is a Schar Baguette. A close runner-up is the Against the Grain French bread.
Schar is shelf-stable and Against the Grain is a frozen product. The best part of the Schar baguette is that it has a denser structure, so it absorbs the garlic butter.
In a pinch, a hot dog bun will do. And yes, that is totally what I do when I have leftover garlic butter.

🥖 How to Make Gluten-Free Garlic Bread
Make Garlic Butter
Butter takes 1 to 2 hours to soften at room temperature. Once softened stir in the garlic, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper. You can do this step in advance to save time later. It will keep for several weeks if stored properly.

Spread and Bake
Cut each baguette in half lengthwise and place them on a baking sheet. I don't typically line with anything, but you can use parchment paper or foil for faster clean-up.
Bake the butter baguettes at 350 F degrees until the center is soft and the edges of the bread are golden and crispy. This should take about 8 to 10 minutes.

Serve your bread with a bowl of gluten-free potato soup, gluten free chicken alfredo, crustless tomato pie, or sun-dried tomato risotto.
🥗 How to Use Leftover Garlic Butter
This garlic butter is essentially a compound butter. It can be used on top of seared steaks, blackened fish, or roasted vegetables like my roasted zucchini or roasted eggplant.
👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
- The key to this recipe is to soften the butter so the garlic and herbs mix up evenly.
- To serve garlic bread for a crowd slice it in half lengthwise. Butter the halves and then partially cut the bread into 1-inch slices. Cutting it like hasselback potatoes makes it easy for partygoers to tear off a piece while making for a pretty display.
- Make this dairy-free with your favorite vegan butter and use the Schar baguette.
- To make cheesy garlic bread, add a ½ cup grated parmesan to the butter.

🌡️ How to Freeze Garlic Bread
Garlic bread keeps 1 to 2 days in the fridge, but I prefer to freeze. Cool completely, slip into a freezer bag, and freeze for up to 2 months.
To reheat, thaw on the counter or remove from the bag and warm in a 300°F oven until heated through and the butter has melted.

Thaw for 30 minutes on the counter. It should be sliceable after that. Let thaw all the way before toasting and adding to your stuffing.
