This drink is like a classic margarita meets an Aperol spritz. It's a refreshing, slower-sipping cocktail that I like to enjoy with grilled shrimp tacos, elote in a cup, or tortilla chips with mango habanero salsa.
It’s definitely a go-to drink for summer BBQs and gatherings any time of year!
📖Why My Recipe Works
This recipe skips the simple syrup, Triple Sec, and Cointreau since the Aperol and orange juice already add a touch of sweetness.
If you add Triple Sec, it would have way too much liquor in it, and adding syrup would make it a bit too sweet—at least for my taste!
🧾Ingredient Notes
- Tequila- Use blanco tequila or reposado tequila.
- Aperol spritz- We're swapping out Triple Sec or Cointreau for Aperol, an Italian liqueur that adds a delicious bittersweet twist to the margarita. Leftover Aperol? Try my Aperol Gin Sour!
- Orange juice- You can use any bottled orange juice.
- Lime juice- Use fresh lime juice and save the zest for garnish.
- Salt- Optional, for the glass rim.
