When the weather turns frosty and twinkling lights start to glow, nothing says cozy quite like a mug in hand. Frothy eggnog, steeped with chai tea and finished with a splash of bourbon, makes this chai eggnog worthy of sipping all season long.

While my classic homemade eggnog has its place and mulled wine gets plenty of love at parties. This warm eggnog cocktail is the festive twist that I can make for one or make a large batch for a party.
Your holiday season didn't know it needed this boozy treat! Pro tip, I love dunking gingerbread cookies into my eggnog.
📖Why My Recipe Works
- Cozy - Most eggnog cocktails are chilled, but this one is served warm, making it perfect for winter nights.
- Bold flavors - Chai tea has a variety of spices, including cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon. These flavors mingle perfectly with the caramel notes of bourbon. Think more flavor, less sweet.
🧾Ingredient Notes
- Eggnog Beverage - Use any kind of store-bought eggnog, even dairy-free.
- Chai Tea - You need a couple of bags of your favorite chai tea. I don't recommend using a chai syrup which contains a hefty dose of sugar. When combined with the eggnog, it will be way too sweet.
- Bourbon - You can also use rye or whiskey.

⏲️How to Make Chai Eggnog

- Don't boil the eggnog. Just bring it to a gentle simmer so it is warm enough for steeping.

- Measure 1 ½ cups of the spiced eggnog mixture, stir in the bourbon, and divide between two mugs.

- Froth (or aggressively whisk) the remaining eggnog and top the mugs. Alternatively, you can top with whipped cream.
👩🏻🍳 Expert Tip
While bourbon eggnog is my favorite, try swapping out with brandy or dark rum.
