📖Why This Recipe Works
- Fruity Not Sweet- This recipe isn't sweeter than typical old fashioneds but it does have a unique berry flavor thanks to my homemade simple syrup.
🧾Ingredient Notes
- Liquor- There are no rules here. Pick the bourbon or whiskey you like best. Not the sipping kind, just a good quality brand like Bulleit or Templeton.
- Blueberries- You can use frozen or fresh blueberries. Or get creative and mix in another fruit like blackberries.
- Bitters- You can use any type you like although classic bitters are traditional in this recipe.
- Orange- This classic cocktail should have an orange twist. Save that Luxardo cherry for your next Manhattan. But if you want to try something different I suggest a lemon twist.
⏲️How to Make a Blueberry Old Fashioned
Make the blueberry syrup and strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove the pulp.
Combine all the ingredients in a glass and stir. Add a large ice cube and your orange peel.
Expert Tip
Straining the blueberry simple syrup through a cheesecloth-lined sieve will give it the silkiest texture.
